I published Ruminations in the quiet
hours of the night from my one bedroom apartment in Flushing, Queens in NYC in the mid
80's. Armed with a Compaq luggable, an Epson dot-matrix computer, and a Canon copier, I
entered publishing. Each month when I ran off copies from a master paste-up, I had to shut
off all the appliances and lights because the apartment was only wired for 110 service. I
use to hate those nights when it was raining or snowing, and I had to go outside and
downstairs to the basement to flip the breaker back on.
It was a desperate labor of love, and was
doomed to fail from the very beginning. I hated every minute of every issue, but something
possessed me and forced me to squeeze out issue after issue. I was driven.
In retrospect, the magazine became an
outlet for me to express my creative and personal side, and to share my ideas and life
with a group of 200 subscribers -- many of whom became friends. For however short
lived it was, it did fulfill its mission: to get people to think more about the magic they
develop and perform.
