You can't keep a good magician down. No
matter how many times I say I am never going to get involved with writing about magic,
invariably someone or some project comes along and I get hooked again. Magic is a wily
mistress indeed.
Over the years I have written several
columns for a variety of publications (M-U-M, Linking Ring, Tannens Magic Manuscript,
Genii) and my own short-lived magazine, Ruminations: Magic That Makes You Think! This part
of the web site will present archives of all of these columns.
Rants & Riffs was originally created
for Meir Yedid's online publication MagicTimes.com.
Each column is a combination of a Dennis Miller-like "rant" followed by a
Schneiderman-like "riff" or variation on a mood of magic. I hope you will find
these columns thought provoking, entertaining and enlightening.
Rubrics
& Ruminations ran for about two years in the Magic Manuscript and
contained new effects and moves with unusual twists. These columns were the precursor to
my own publication, Ruminations: Magic That Makes You Think! and act as a good
introduction to my general theories on magic.
Ruminations also ran for about two years
and came out monthly. It was an absolutely insane commitment for me to have made at that
time in my life, but I was exploding with ideas and needed an outlet. In so doing, I
garnered praise from many people for my efforts including Jay Sankey, Jeff McBride and
Penn & Teller. I am now offering reprinted, spiral bound editions of Volume I and II.
In addition, I have uncovered a ton of lost manuscripts which is being released as Volume
III. Lastly, The Farewell Issue is now exclusively available from this web site. Four
volumes in total, available individually or as a complete set. A must buy for the magician
in search of creative and thought provoking material.
